Bullsbay Honored At Laurel Park

Presentation_Bulls_BayWhitney Handicap (G1) winner Bullsbay was named 2009 Maryland-based Horse of the Year at Laurel Park on Saturday, February 20th.  The big bay son of Tiznow was awarded the honor by the Maryland Racing Media Association, which each year selects the top horse conditioned in Maryland.  Bullsbay’s additional victories in Churchill’s Alysheba Stakes (G3) and Laurel’s Harrison E. Johnson Memorial Handicap, along with close second-place finishes in the John B. Campbell Handicap and Hal’s Hope Stakes (G3) and a game third in Rachel Alexandra’s history-making Woodward Stakes stamped him as a solid and popular choice for this year’s title.

The celebration began with a luncheon in the Terrace Dining Room, followed by a ceremony in the winner’s circle as track announcer Dave Rodman relayed the highlights of Bullsbay’s 2009 campaign.  With Graham at Gulfstream to saddle five runners, assistant Adrian Rolls accepted the Waterford crystal trophy for Herringswell.
