Belmont Park, that is. CHULAINN scored his fourth career win with an exciting finish in an allowance optional claiming race at “Big Sandy” this afternoon. Sent off as second-favorite in the field of ten going nine furlongs on the grass, he was ridden today by Manuel Franco, who’s been on a hot streak of late.
Ruse and Dylan Davis seemed to have the race won by the 1/16th pole but were overtaken in the last strides by a cavalry charge led by Chulainn and Franco on the outside, who swept under the wire in time for the win.
Chulainn is clearly a horse who loves New York. Two of his previous wins occurred at Belmont, with one at Saratoga. Franco was aboard for both Belmont wins, including his maiden-breaking effort there just over a year ago. The 4-year-old son of Kantharos is out of the Lemon Drop Kid mare Sabouli, who was trained by Graham in 2013 and 2014.
Congratulations to breeder/owners Newcal Stable on a terrific win!
