Wertheimer & Frere homebred TOK TOK earned a win for the Tampa Bay Downs squad on Friday in an 8 1/2 furlong claiming race on the turf. Jockey Charlie Marquez, who got his start in pony races here in Maryland, was aboard.
“Tok Tok saved ground early on mid-pack and came four-wide on the turn taking aim at the lead, then swung five-wide into the upper and took command in the stretch and finished well to prove best.” It was career win number three for Tok Tok, who won on debut at Colonial Downs on July 27, 2023. He followed that up by capturing Colonial’s Kitten’s Joy Stakes six weeks later. Tok Tok’s early success earned him a spot in the gate for that year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf-G1 at Santa Anita, where he finished sixth.
The 5-year-old gelding by Quality Road is out of graded stakes winner In Tune, by Unbridled’s Song. He was claimed from Friday’s race by Derek Ryan for new owners Metro Thoroughbreds LLC. We wish them the best!
