He broke dead last “in a bit of a tangle” and stayed at the back of the pack for most of the race, but when DATAMAN hit the gas, he was an absolute rocket charging to win the Cliffhanger Stakes at Monmouth Park.
He was coming off his win in the Henry S. Clark Stakes at Laurel Park on April 20 and had Jorge Ruiz in the irons again today. The pair clearly get on like a house afire, with Jorge up for Dataman’s wins last summer in the Bald Eagle Derby at Laurel and a Delaware Park allowance. Honestly, today’s win looked like a joyride at the beach for Jorge!
Now 4, Wertheimer & Frere’s homebred gray son of Tapit from the Maria’s Mon mare Soldata has become extremely popular with Herringswell followers. And our friend Rajiv Maragh was knocked out by today’s performance too.
“He overcame so much adversity and delivered this impactful finish,” Rajiv said on America’s Day At The Races. “This is a future Grade 1 horse right here. Dataman is a promising horse – remember his name!”
Sounds good to us, Rajiv! Cheers to his connections on more black type for Dataman!
