Active Gets First Win

ACTIVE must have watched the replay of stablemate Hardspun Reason’s win yesterday. Behind the field early, she too made an eye-catching stretch run, breaking her maiden at Laurel Park this afternoon. There were just a few brief anxious seconds before the race as the 3-year-old filly broke through the gate with Jorge Ruiz in the tack. The pair were sent off as 6/5 favorites in the field of nine maiden fillies and mares.

Going 1 1/8 miles on the grass, “Active lacked speed, raced inside horses entering the far turn, swung to the six path turning for home, drifted in when taking the lead near the eighth pole and drew off under steady handling.” She pulled away to win by 2 1/2 lengths over Compass Rises.

Active was bred in Maryland by R. Larry Johnson. She is by Gun Runner from In The Navy Now (by Midshipman), winner of the 2018 Nellie Morse Stakes. Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners purchased Active from the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $200,000. Congratulations to them on her first win today!
