Alakan Gets First Win at Laurel Park

It was another winner for local stallion – and former Herringswell trainee – Galawi (IRE) this afternoon when ALAKAN broke his maiden at Laurel Park. The 2-year-old colt made his debut there just a few weeks ago on October 18, finishing second with Jorge Ruiz, who was aboard him again today.

Eleven colts entered the gate for the 8-1/2 furlong route on the turf. Squeezed a bit out of the gate, Alakan raced toward the back of the pack down the backstretch before showing serious turn of foot and beginning his move around the 3/4 pole. He was 1-1/2 lengths the best at the top of the stretch, responded well to Jorge’s urging and finished the winner by two lengths.

Another Wertheimer and Frere homebred, Alakan was foaled in Kentucky out of the Danzig mare Pitamakan. Cheers to them on this win today!
