Making his third start in the U.S., King Vega (GB) found everything to his liking today at Delaware Park. Cooler temperatures (yesterday was a hot, humid scorcher) and firm turf served up the perfect scenario for the 4-year-old gelding to earn his second career win. With eight starts in England before export, he broke his maiden at Goodwood last September.
Today’s contest was an allowance optional claiming going 1 1/16 miles; King Vega (GB) did not run for a tag. Angel Suarez had him tucked in behind the speed throughout, taking advantage of an opening mid-stretch to get clear. When Suarez hit the gas, King Vega (GB) reacted with a powerful kick and easily passed the leaders, getting to the wire 1 3/4 lengths ahead of Sandy Lane Kitten.
Bred in England by Fortescue Bloodstock, he is by Lope de Vega (IRE) out of Moi Meme (GB), by Teofilo (IRE). Congratulations to his owners HPG Thoroughbreds, LLC!
