Another Graded Stakes Win for Highland Chief (IRE)

He became a Grade 1 winner with his popular victory in the Man O’War Stakes at Belmont Park in May. And today he added more lustre to his resume with a stylish score in Keeneland’s Sycamore Stakes-G3 under John Velazquez.

When it comes to Johnny V, it’s almost impossible to come up with something clever or original to say. He put on one of his typical “How To” symposiums with today’s ride, drafting patiently behind leader Channel Maker until seizing the opportunity to power past en route to a definitive victory.

This was Graham’s fourth win in the Sycamore. Holiday Star had back-to-back triumphs in 2014 and 2015, and Sanagas (GER) won it in 2011.

Now 5, Highland Chief (IRE) was bred and is owned by Mrs. Fitriani Hay. He is by Gleneagles (IRE) out of Pink Symphony, by Montjeu (IRE). A barn favorite – “He is such a cool horse!” is an oft-heard declaration – he’s now a multiple graded stakes winner of $746,862. His regular groom Lisa Conway made the trip to Keeneland with him.

Congratulations to Mrs. Hay on another great effort from Highland Chief (IRE)!
