She made her debut in a maiden special weight at Laurel Park on July 1, 2023. It was a winning effort, and every start since then has been in stakes company. TOUPIE was back at Laurel Park today for her latest win – the listed Sensible Lady Turf Dash Stakes.
Daniel Centeno had the mount in the 6-furlong turf sprint, and the pair went off as 8/5 favorites in the field of nine fillies and mares. She was a bit of a handful in the paddock and hit the gate at the start of the race, but Toupie is a tough girl. She’s always keen, even with the game face while training in the mornings. She “forged through between rivals leaving the furlong grounds to take command, spurted clear while switching to her correct lead with about a sixteenth to go then held firm while steadily hand-ridden to the wire.”
This win brought her stats to 15-6-2-1 with $450,805 earned for the Wertheimer and Frere homebred daughter of Uncle Mo and Amertume, by Tapit. Congratulations to them on another black type win for Toupie!
