Multiple stakes winner TRUE VALOUR (IRE) added to his already impressive resume this afternoon with a win in the King T. Leatherbury Stakes at Laurel Park. It was his first start in 13 months; he last ran in the Al Quoz Sprint on the Dubai World Cup undercard at Meydan on March 27, 2021.
Owner R. Larry Johnson purchased the now 8-year-old son of Kodiac (GB) for $225,000 from the Fasig Tipton Horses of Racing Age Sale in July, 2020. True Valour (IRE) began his career in Ireland in 2016. His first North American start came at Del Mar on July 22, 2018 for owner Qatar Racing and trainer John Murtagh. Running exclusively in California before selling to Johnson, he won the City of Hope Mile Stakes-G2 and the Thunder Road Stakes-G3 at Santa Anita in 2019.
Feargal Lynch had the mount at Laurel today in the contentious field of ten sprinters going 5 1/2 furlongs on the grass. And legendary Hall of Fame trainer King T. Leatherbury was on hand to present Graham with the trophy in the winner’s circle.
Congratulations to Larry Johnson on this very popular win, and our thanks to Laurel Park photographer Jerry Dzierwinski for the great photos!
