Ballast!

Many of you will remember Ballast as a tough knocking turf horse we got from England a few years ago.  He was always a barn favorite but when the owner decided to get out of racing Graham had to put him in a high priced claiming race at Gulfstream.  It was actually a surprise to us all that he was claimed but he stayed with the same trainer and ran pretty competitively for a while but then ended up ‘going down the ladder’ as I call it.  It seemed that the new owner too didn’t want him any more and when he ran on Wednesday at Delaware Park in a $5,000 claiming race going five furlongs on the slop, it was too much.  Graham called the trainer, wrote a check and we picked him up yesterday.  Maggie came out today to take some photo’s and he still looks pretty good.  He’ll be turned out for 30 days and we will look for a ‘forever’ home for him.  He needs someone who REALLY wants him.  He’s 10 years old and still sound.  The State vet at Delaware Park even fell in love with him!  She said he is a gentleman.

During his career he ran 56 times, won 12 races, was second 12 times and third 5 times, winning over $575,000.{jcomments on}
