BLACK CAVIAR

Phew. I think a lot of people feel as if they’ve run the race themselves! What an incredible mare. Forget the fact she just won over a distance which is her limit (Royal Ascot six furlongs up the hill is all of seven furlongs). She did it, twenty two for twenty two and that’s all that matters. Also, I didn’t hear one mention in all the coverage of how much weight she was giving away. Fourteen pounds to the second horse and twenty two pounds to the third horse. Stake races over here are run at level weights but not in England with their handicapping system.

If you look at her stride she takes one to everyone else’s one and a half! She was never touched with the whip either, it was just shaken.

Congratulations to all the connections of Black Caviar to pulling off what racing really loves – a true champion, whether it be in the US or elsewhere.

P.S. Guess who was second – George Strawbridge, Jr!{jcomments on}
