Busy Summer Weekend

Herringswell runners head off in several different directions this weekend. In his first start since the UAE Derby in Dubai in late March, Team Valor International’s Lucky Chappy leads a contingent of entries bound for Colonial Downs on Saturday. The son of High Chaparral (IRE) is set to face 8 rivals in the track’s marquee event, the $600,000 Virginia Derby (G2). He will be ridden in the 1-1/4 mile test by Alan Garcia.

Garcia also has the mount on Ski Holiday, who will represent George Strawbridge’s Augustin Stable in the Virginia Oaks (G3). Jane’s Heir is the current morning line favorite in the Tippett Stakes, a turf sprint for two-year-old fillies. Robby Albarado has the call. Also on the 14-race Colonial card, Tell Me Everything and Once and for All will head postward for owners Pin Oak Stable and Jack Swain.

Dual stakes winner Howe Great and rider Joe Bravo will take on six other starters in the Jersey Derby at Monmouth Park on Saturday. Team Valor’s colt by Hat Trick (JPN) is currently installed at odds of 7/5.
