Candy Light Wins on a Special Afternoon at Keeneland

Fortune Racing, LLC’s CANDY LIGHT added to her resume with a win in a one-mile turf allowance at Keeneland on Thursday. Ridden by Joel Rosario, the 3-year-old filly literally dove through an opening on the rail to prevail by 1 1/2 lengths over the place horse, Sake (FR).

And it was a significant day on the Keeneland calendar – “Make-A-Wish Day.”  The late John Joseph Greely IV, “a fourth-generation Kentuckian, was the driving force behind ‘Make-Wish’ Day at Keeneland among his philanthropic endeavors.”

“Our good friend was one of the pioneers for this day,” Anita Motion said. “He was part of our ‘gang’ in Chantilly (France) in the 1980s.”

Graham was on hand to greet Candy Light in the winner’s circle, with assistant Alice Clapham notably absent. Alice, a finalist for one of the Godolphin Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards, was enjoying a rare afternoon off to join in the Lexington-area festivities thrown in honor of the nominees!

By Candy Ride (ARG) out of Queen Yolanda by Pioneerof The Nile, Candy Light was bred in Kentucky by Gary & Mary West Stables, Inc. Congratulations to her owners for this impressive score!
