Che Bella Signora!

It was Buon Natale on Boxing Day at Gulfstream Park this afternoon when ROMAGNA MIA (GB) won the 8th running of $150,000 Via Borghese Stakes. The 4-year-old daughter of Mastercraftsman (IRE) carried John Velazquez and the famed red and green silks of Team Valor International in the 1 1/2 mile route on the all-weather surface.

“Romagna Mia (GB) settled off the pace while racing two wide, cruised up three wide around the far turn, seized command near the quarter pole and drew off under left-handed urging.”

She hit the wire seven lengths in front of second-place finisher Tass. Romagna Mia (GB) has been rock solid since joining Herringswell this summer. She made her first North American start in the Beverly D. Stakes-G1 at Colonial Downs on August 12, finishing third. Her next outing was a win in the Rood & Riddle Dowager Stakes-G3 at Keeneland on October 22, going 12 furlongs on the turf. Johnny V. has been aboard for all three of her starts in the United States. Sent off as the 4-5 favorite today, this victory plumps her career stats to 13-5-2-1 with $440,029 in earnings.

Romagna Mia (GB) was bred in England by Cavendish Bloodstock. She is out of Washington Blue (GB), and unraced daughter of multiple Group 1 winner Rip Van Winkle (IRE).

Congratulations to all of her connections on another terrific stakes win!
