Check the Label made a powerful inside move on the far turn, split horses to find running room in the stretch, and drove to a 2¾-length victory under jockey Ramon Dominguez. Check the Label raced last of eight through a half-mile as pacesetter Kilmore Quay (Ire) covered a half-mile in :51.82. As the field began to bunch around the turn, Check the Label found room inside and split horses in midstretch, driving with authority into the clear to cover 11⁄8 miles in 1:51.85 on turf rated as firm. The win was the third straight for Check the Label, who entered off victories in the Appalachian Stakes (G3) on April 15 at Keeneland and the Sands Point Stakes (G2) on May 31 at Belmont Park. Pacesetter Kilmore Quay held gamely for second, finishing 1½ lengths in front of In the Rough in third.

Trained by Graham Motion for owner-breeder Brereton Jones, Check the Label, a Stormin Fever filly out of the unraced Mazel Trick mare Don’t Trick, won for the fifth time from 12 starts and increased her earnings to $341,227.—Steve Bailey{jcomments on}
