Contempt Scores in First Start

There was plenty of respect for CONTEMPT today, who rewarded his backers with an $18.00 win payoff in his debut at Laurel Park this afternoon.

Nine maidens entered the gate for the 6-furlong spin on the dirt. Jorge Ruiz was aboard the 3-year-old Violence colt, and the pair “continued to grind and wore down the leader to prove best in the final yards.” Contempt was bred in Maryland by Sycamore Hall Thoroughbreds, LLC and Ellen Charles, and he runs for Sycamore Hall and Mrs. Charles’ Hillwood Stables LLC.

If those brown and white silks looked familiar, they should. Contempt’s dam, Love’s Reason, also produced graded stakes winner Majestic Reason (Majestic Warrior), winner of the Runhappy Barbara Fritchie Stakes-G3 in 2020. She was also named 2019 Maryland-bred Champion Older Mare.

Congratulations to these dedicated Maryland breeder/owners on another terrific Maryland win!
