Deep Freeze

We’re ringing in the New Year with some wicked temperatures in our neck of the woods, with racing cancelled here in Maryland and also in New York through January 1.

Laurel Park ran seven races on their card Saturday before cancelling the remainder, including both the Thirty Eight Go Go and Dave’s Friend Stakes.

RMJ Stables’ MIHRAB (below) finished fourth under Jevian Toledo in the $100,000 Gin Talking Stakes for 2-year-old fillies which, as it turned out, ended up being the last race of the day.

Shortly thereafter, Lisa Conway went to the paddock with Sam Son Farms’ CHIC THRILL. That ended up being just a walkover in the sharp winter air; the Maryland Jockey Club called it a day as the horses prepared to be saddled. Lisa managed to smile despite the brutal cold, but Chic Thrill surely wondered what was up as they headed back to the barn instead of postward to the gate!

Both stakes races have been rescheduled for this Friday, January 5.
