Eagle Scout!

“A good horse can come from anywhere, and anyone can own one,” said a beaming Aron Wellman of Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners after their SPEAKING SCOUT earned his first Grade 1 victory in Del Mar’s $400,000 Hollywood Derby.

The 3-year-old gelding was coming off a strong second to Cabo Spirit in the Twilight Derby-G2 at Santa Anita on October 29, which was the follow-up to his win in the Hawthorne Derby Presented by BetMakers on October 1. Juan Hernandez, who was aboard in the Twilight Derby, had the call again today and gave the horse a masterful ride.

“Juan gave him a great ride,” Graham said. “I think it really helped that he rode him last time and he knew him. He gave him a perfect, patient ride today.”

“A lot of credit for my horse; he put himself in a nice spot,” Juan told Britney Eurton in the post-race interview. “Then I just was the pilot today and finding a hole to come through and win the race.”

Graham also credited Aron for finding Speaking Scout last year as a 2-year-old.

“Aron found this horse at Colonial – fair play to him. He’s very clever at picking out these horses.”

“What a gutsy horse,” Aron said. “We’ve run him 13 times at 10 different tracks.”

Bred in Kentucky by Mike Abraham, Speaking Scout is by multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire Mr Speaker from the Pleasant Tap mare Miss Scout.

Huge congrats to Aron and the Eclipse Partners on their newest Grade 1 winner!
