Eagle Scout

Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners’ SPEAKING SCOUT earned another merit badge this afternoon with a win in the final race of Keeneland’s spring meet. The paddock optics for this 1 3/16 route on the grass were fantastic; among the field of 12 3-year-old colts and geldings were sons of Tapit, Gun Runner, Arrogate, War Front, Hard Spun, Into Mischief and our own runner’s sire, Mr Speaker. It was arguably one of the best-looking groups assembled there this month.

Speaking Scout and Luis Saez sat comfortably off leader Durante throughout before making their move turning for home. Durante fought back gamely into the stretch before Speaking Scout pulled clear, winning by a length over Tallahatchiebridge with Icarus in third.

Speaking Scout was bred in Kentucky by Mike Abraham and is out of the Pleasant Tap mare Miss Scout. This was career win number two for him; he broke his maiden at Delaware Park on October 6, 2021.

Congratulations to Aron Wellman and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners! And we have to give a shout-out to TVG analysts Scott Hazelton and Gabby Gaudet, who also picked him to win!
