She really is the gift that keeps on giving. NO SHOW SAMMY JO (GB) added more lustre to her resume today capturing the Sheepshead Bay Stakes-G3 at Belmont at the Big A.
While most of the racing world is focused on Churchill Downs this weekend, the 6-year-old mare took a ride up I-95 and scored her first graded stakes win. Jorge Ruiz went along with her for a long (1 3/8 miles) stroll on the lawn.
The pair had a dodgy beginning, as “No Show Sammy Jo (GB) lost her footing in the hindquarters some at the start, then dropped back, raced in the three path on the first turn, was reserved off the pace while tugging at the bit, rounded the second turn in the two path, settled on the backstretch, went around the final turn in the two path, was roused at the quarter pole then rallied in the four path into the stretch” before making her bid at the eighth pole and powering home under strong urging to win by 3/4 length.
The daughter of Lope De Vega (IRE) gave owners Newstead Stables LLC plenty to celebrate today. Her career stats are now an impressive 16-7-4-0 with $630,075 to her credit.
Cheers to all!
