In just five career starts, she’s already earned upper case black type with her second-place finish (by a neck) to Julia Shining in Aqueduct’s Demoiselle Stakes-G2 last November. And in her last race on January 14, she was third in the Busanda Stakes over the same surface.
But AFFIRMATIVE LADY had her breakout performance this afternoon, winning a maiden special weight at Gulfstream with Junior Alvarado aboard. In blinkers for the first time and breaking from the #1 slot, the pair held the rail all the way down the backstretch before taking on the two leaders into the turn. They split those two rivals at the top of the stretch and kicked away easily to win by 2 1/4 lengths. It was Alvarado’s second win on the card.
Bred in Kentucky by Alastar Thoroughbred Co, LLC, the 3-year-old filly is by Eclipse Champion Arrogate, winner of the Travers Stakes, Breeders’ Cup Classic, Pegasus World Cup Invitational and Dubai World Cup. The earner of $17,422,600 stood just three seasons at stud before his untimely death at age 7 in 2020. Her dam is multiple graded stakes placed Stiffed, by Stephen Got Even.
Congratulations to owners AMO Racing USA, LLC on Affirmative Lady’s maiden breaker today!
