There were some tense pre-race moments in the paddock, but once on the racetrack, FIVE TOWNS (GB) got down to business and captured the Dahlia Stakes at Laurel Park with Jorge Ruiz aboard.

Merry Fox Stables’ homebred 4-year-old filly was making just her third start in the U.S. since arriving from England last November. She was coming off a win in her most recent outing, an optional allowance at Gulfstream on March 23. Jorge had the mount that day as well.

She was very keen today, settling toward the rear of the field into the first turn but then tugging Jorge down the backstretch to improve their position. The pair appeared to be closed in behind the leaders in the stretch, but Jorge swung out at first opportunity and gave her clear sailing to the wire. She kicked on easily and won by 1 1/4 lengths.

By multiple Group 1 winner Lord Kanaloa (JPN), Five Towns (GB) is out of Guilty Twelve, a graded stakes winner and another former Herringswell trainee. Congratulations to her connections on today’s stakes win!
