Gizala (IRE) Gets First North American Win

She was making just her second start outside France, where she broke her maiden at Chantilly six months ago. In her last outing, she was fourth behind stablemate Sparkle Blue in the Christiana Stakes at Delaware Park.  But GIZALA (IRE) put it all together today at Woodbine, winning an allowance optional claiming race going 1 1/8 miles on the grass.

She threw her head a few times down the backside, but jockey Rafael Hernandez got her to settle and the pair sat just off the pace. Swung four-wide at the top of the stretch, she ran down the leaders by the 3/16 pole and went on to win by three lengths.

Owned by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Steven Rocco, the 3-year-old bay filly is by Invincible Spirit (IRE) from the Galileo (IRE) mare Golden Gazelle (IRE). It’s a very full and busy day for Herringswell runners, and she gave us one for the win column! Congrats to Eclipse, Mr. Rocco and Gizala (IRE)!
