Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational to Trikari

“I don’t know what his distance limitations are, but I said to Johnny (Velazquez), ‘We’ve got to ride him like he’s going to handle the distance,’ and I really thought he would.  He’s a special horse, he really is.”

– Graham to Maggie Wolfendale after Trikari’s win in the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes-G1

Is he ever. In a career spanning eight months and seven starts, Amerman Racing LLC’s TRIKARI is a Grade 1 winner with earnings literally nudging the $1 million mark. And let’s take a moment to talk about that. At the 2022 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale, he was consigned by Buckland Sales and purchased by Angel Ordonez for $9,000. Nine months later at Ocala Breeders Sales’ October Yearling Sale, Amerman Racing got him for $27,500 from the Ordonez Thoroughbreds consignment. As of this afternoon, Trikari has earned $996,630 and has been first, second or third in six of those seven races with four wins. Two of those wins are graded stakes – the American Turf Stakes-G2 at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby Day, and today’s Grade 1 in New York.

Please pardon my momentary lapse of eloquence…..but all I can say is Wow.

So many highlights with this win. Having Johnny V aboard is always a privilege. When one of the flowers from the winner’s garland fell, he picked it up and handed it to Mrs. Amerman, who was happily on hand in the winner’s circle. This victory was the first Grade 1 win for Trikari’s sire, the red-hot Oscar Performance. The same for his dam, former Herringswell trainee and graded winner Dynamic Holiday (by Harlan’s Holiday). And our long-time groom Lisa Conway, who made the trip to Aqueduct with Trikari, is celebrating her birthday today. In simplest terms, this was a seriously good day.

So huge congratulations all around to breeders Michael A. Slezak and Amy Boll, Amerman Racing LLC, Johnny V….and why not – all of us celebrating here at Herringswell!
