Hardspun Reason Tough in 2024 Debut

In his first start of 2024, HARDSPUN REASON was all business in an optional allowance going 8 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Laurel Park.¬†Victor Carrasco had the mount this afternoon; he was aboard for the now 5-year-old gelding’s maiden win at Pimlico on May 28, 2022.

The pair trailed early before moving into the final turn on the backside. Victor had to take back slightly as the field compressed, but once into the stretch Hardspun Reason switched on the afterburners and determinedly held off the fast-closing The Addison Pour.

“I was just trying to be as patient as Graham wanted me to be,” Victor said. “I saw some opening on the rail right at the 5/16 pole and I think that was the winning move.”

As track announcer Dave Rodman pointed out, this was Hardspun Reason’s third straight win since adding blinkers. Today’s score gave him career win number four.

The son of Hard Spun is jointly owned by his breeders Sycamore Hall Farm and Mrs. Ellen Charles’ Hillwood Stable. He is out of Mrs. Charles’ stakes winning mare Love’s Reason (by Not For Love). The group joined Graham in winner’s circle for today’s celebration!
