Heroic Debut

AMERICAN WAR HERO rewarded owners Boardshorts with a win at first asking today at Delaware Park. With Mychel Sanchez aboard, the son of Constitution faced six 2-year-old foes going 5 1/2 furlongs on the main track.

Per the chart: “American War Hero was settled early, ridden along three wide on the turn, came four wide into the lane, was trying to lug in while closing under left handed crop, then was up late under strong handling to prove best.”

The colt was purchased for $625,000 from the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s March Two-Year-Olds in Training sale. He is out of the Tiz Wonderful mare Libby’s Tail and was bred in Kentucky by Horseshoe Racing LLC.  And also among his connections are familiar Herringswell names – Hunter Rankin and Jocelyn Brooks, both formerly of Sagamore Farm.

“We’re so excited to get a win first time out with this horse,” Hunter said after the race. “Graham has said he’s going to appreciate more distance, so we’re excited for his future.”

So are we, Hunter! Congrats on today’s score!
