Honest Al Gets First Win at Saratoga

For an owner, winning at Saratoga is a celebratory occasion. For a horse, breaking its maiden there adds just a little more gloss to a resume.

RyZan Sun Racing LLC had exactly that reason to celebrate on Friday when 2-year-old HONEST AL bested foes to score his first win in his second career start. Originally scheduled as 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf, the race was moved to the main track after heavy rains soaked Saratoga on Thursday night.

Despite a bump coming out of the gate and then getting floated out wide down the stretch, Honest Al showed grit and dug in. Fighting off the bid of late-closing Piccata Prince, he got to the wire 3/4 lengths in front with Manny Franco in the saddle.

RyZan’s Ryan Zabrowski clearly has an eye for a yearling. He signed the $17,000 ticket for Honest Al at last year’s Keeneland September sale and did the same at Fasig-Tipton’s Kentucky Fall Sale in 2021 when securing future multiple graded stakes winner Mission of Joy (IRE) for $32,000.

By Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming, Honest Al is out of graded stakes placed Bajan, by Speightstown. He was bred in Kentucky by CHC Inc. Congratulations to all on a win at the Spa!
