King of the Dead-Heat

Forest Boyce on the turf at Colonial Downs – it’s a factor that should never be discounted. She proved why this afternoon with a dead-heat win on KING VEGA (GB) in a salty AOC going 1 1/8 miles on the grass.

The pair shot out of the gate and set a sharp pace, maintaining the lead throughout. In the final jumps, they were literally equaled at the wire by Commandeer and Jorge Ruiz. The photo review was painstaking and lengthy before the official result was posted as a dead-heat. Stablemate Sy Dog was just behind the pair in the show position.

King Vega (GB) was making his first start in 2023. His prior effort was a second-place finish at Keeneland on October 23, 2022. His last win also came at Colonial in the Buckland Stakes on August 16, 2022.

Now 5, the son of Lope De Vega (IRE) and Moi Meme (GB), by Teofilo (IRE), was bred by Fortescue Bloodstock. Congratulations to owner HPG Thoroughbreds, LLC! Today was career win number four and increased his earnings to $214,116.
