As iconic New York Yankee Yogi Berra famously said, “It’s like deja vu all over again.”

LAURELIN (IRE) followed the lead of Jack and Jim yesterday, shipping up to Aqueduct for a stakes debut in just her second career start. Like Jack and Jim, the 2-year-old filly by Zarak (FR) won her first outing at Belmont at the Big A, scoring in a maiden special on October 13.

Laurelin paired up with Kendrick Carmouche again for the $135,000 Tepin Stakes going a mile on the turf this afternoon. Kendrick kept her well-placed throughout, comfortably behind early leaders in the three path. Responding to urging on the far turn, she bumped with a rival deeper into the stretch but dug in gamely to win by a half-length over a very game Five G and Irad Ortiz. It was Kendrick’s second victory on the card.

Bred in Ireland by M. H. Dixon and Mount Coote Estates, Laurelin is out of Bari (IRE) by Cape Cross (IRE). She is owned by Steven and Jessica Jell’s Newstead Stables LLC. Congratulations to all of the connections on the stakes win today!
