Luna Time

What a wonderful win for the owner and breeder partnership of Dorsey Brown and Rich Palmer today at Saratoga with their Malibu Moon filly Luna Time.  This was her second start and John Velazquez rode her.  Congratulatioons to them both.

Malibu Moon Filly Gets Out and Up In Nick of ‘Time’
Winner: Luna Time, f, 3 by Malibu Moon
Dorsey Brown and Richard Palmer’s Luna Time (f, 3, Malibu Moon–High Moment, by High Yield) was pegged at a morning line of 10-1 in a salty-looking maiden going nine panels Friday at Saratoga–one which drew the once-raced Samantha Nicole (Medaglia d’Oro)–but was sent off at a well-backed 9-2 off a solid, if rather non-descript fourth-place effort in her 6 1/2-furlong debut down at Parx June 24. The selection of John Velazquez, who had previously ridden 5-2 second favorite Dragonberry (Unbridled’s Song), Luna Time landed just on the back of Samantha Nicole, who enjoyed a leisurely time of it on the engine in her first start for the Kiaran McLaughlin barn. The full-sister to Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra was allowed an opening half-mile in :49.50 and six furlongs in 1:13.90, but Luna Time was always traveling and was just in need of room in the lane. Still down on the fence into the final furlong, Luna Time was steered out to the fourth path entering the ultimate furlong and was able to outfinish Dragonberry by about a neck. Twenty in One (Invasor {Arg}) was third off a wide trip, while Samantha Nicole boxed on courageously right down to the finish, her fourth-place effort giving connections something to build on going forward.
