It was a productive afternoon for Gainesway at Aqueduct, with MEMORIALIZE capturing the Tepin Stakes. She was ridden again today Manny Franco, who was aboard in her last start, the Miss Grillo Stakes-G2 on October 4. After a bothersome trip that day, she finished 5th to eventual Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf-G1 winner Hard To Justify.
The tables were turned this afternoon, with the 2-year-old homebred daughter of Karakontie (JPN) showing plenty of grit and determination to run down pacesetter Awesome Czech and get her nose on the wire first.
“Last time I had a wide journey the entire race,” Manny told NYRA’s Maggie Wolfendale post-race. “Today like I told Graham, I got an inside trip, found the right horse to follow. She took a little bit to pass the horses, but I know I’ve got the filly to get it done.”
Graham was on hand at Aqueduct for the win, which he called “very gratifying.”
Memorialize is out of the stakes-placed Smart Emma (by Smart Strike), and runs for Antony Beck’s Gainesway Stable. Those familiar brown and white silks have also been carried by Herringswell runners Spendarella – another daughter of Karakontie (JPN), and Sharing. Congratulations to all!
