He was third in his debut at Laurel Park on October 5, but NAPTOWN (ON) ventured north to Woodbine and left no doubt that today was his day. Rafael Hernandez was in the irons for the 7 furlong maiden special weight, and a field of 12 2-year-olds entered the gate on the all-weather track.
Breaking from post position 10, the pair steadily improved position throughout the race and took command at the top of the stretch. The Woodbine chart caller is eloquent in his recaps:
“…..slipped through on the fence in the final turn starting to lengthen stride, angled outside three wide with run at the quarter pole, cruised to the lead outside four-wide turning for home and drew off convincingly in the final furlong.”
At the wire, they were 5 1/2 lengths the best.
Robert LaPenta’s Whitehorse Stables signed the $120,000 ticket for Naptown (ON) at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. He is owned in partnership with Madaket Stables LLC. By Munnings out of Gold Medalist (Medaglia d’Oro), he was bred in Canada by 557272 Ontario Ltd. Congratulations to all on today’s maiden breaker!
