Michael is survived by Jo, his wife of 69 years. Four children, Claire Nichols, Philippa (Pippa) Motion, Graham Motion (Anita) and Andrew Motion (Janie). Seven grandchildren: Caroline Nichols Lawler (Ben), Meredith Nichols, Josh Nichols, Elizabeth (Lillibet) Motion, Mary Motion, Jane Motion and Marcus (Chappy) Motion. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Upperville, Virginia on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a reception immediately following the service in the parish hall (Cox Hall) next to the church.
