Perfect Measure

Now that was a horse race. GOOD MEASURE earned her second career win at Saratoga this afternoon thanks to a patented tour de force ride from Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez. It was a busy trip, with a bit of brushing around the first turn and again around the second turn in the 1 1/2 mile route on the inner turf course.

Johnny V did what Johnny V does – rode an absolutely masterful race. The final furlong was a showdown between Good Measure and Rheaume, trained by Michael Dickinson and ridden today by Trevor McCarthy. When that horse drifted out a bit, Johnny threaded Good Measure through the slight gap that opened approaching the wire. Trevor tried to close, resulting in some contact between the two fillies. Good Measure was ultra-determined and got her nose in front first. There was a brief delay as the stewards addressed Trevor’s claim of foul, which was disallowed.

The 4-year-old Maryland-bred Good Measure is by Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Eclipse champion Smarty Jones and out of multiple stakes winner Richetta, who was a fixture on the Mid-Atlantic circuit from 2003-2005. Congratulations to her breeder/owners Glenangus Farm LLC on this exciting Saratoga win!
