He was bred and raised here in Maryland, and HARDSPUN REASON has made all seven career starts here as well. He earned win number two this afternoon at Laurel Park with Feargal Lynch aboard.
The pair saved ground on the rail into the first turn and raced about 7 lengths off the leader down the backstretch. At the head of the stretch announcer Dave Rodman called, “Hardspun Reason needs a place to go, in just a tad of traffic.” Feargal found that opening on the inside, split foes and took aim on Curly Larry and Mo, who led throughout. Catching that one, the pair head-bobbed to the wire with Hardspun Reason stretching out to get his nose in front.
We’re so fortunate to have one of the best track announcers in the industry, and he’s clearly a big Three Stooges fan. As the horses hit the wire, Dave yelled “It’s a wise guy photo – Hardspun Reason or Curly Larry and Mo!”
“He did that beautifully,” Anita Motion said of Hardspun Reason’s win. While at home at Fair Hill, the 4-year-old gelding prefers spending his days in the paddock with his buddy My Macho, now the barn pony.
Breeders Sycamore Hall Thoroughbreds, LLC and Ellen Charles’ Hillwood Stable own the son of Hard Spun out of the Not For Love mare Love’s Reason. Love’s Reason won the Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship Stakes in 2010. And some might not realize this, but Not For Love was trained by Graham for the last several starts of his career. The horse went on to reign as Maryland’s perennial leading sire for many years.
Congratulations to Mrs. Charles and Sycamore Hall’s Mike Golden on today’s win!
