Royal Patronage (FR) Gets First U.S. Win

Highclere Thoroughbred Racing LLC’s ROYAL PATRONAGE (FR) celebrated his return after a 7-month layoff with a win in a beefy allowance at Keeneland on April 20.

His first North American start was the Caesar’s Belmont Derby Invitational-G1 last July. He finished 5th in that outing before joining us at Herringswell for his next race, the Caesar’s Saratoga Derby Invitational-G1 on August 6. He ran a month later in the New Kent County Virginia Derby-G3 before getting some downtime at Fair Hill.

Joel Rosario was aboard the 4-year-old at Keeneland for this win, and the chart is an entertaining read:  “Royal Patronage (FR)…..tipped to the five path at the three sixteenths pole, bid while flopping back to his left lead at the furlong grounds, gained an advantage while changing to his correct least at the sixteenth pole, and held off an outer bidder late.”

Bred in France by Emma Capon Bloodstock, the bay colt is by Wootton Asset (GB) out of Shaloushka (IRE) by Dalakhani (IRE). Congrats to the Highclere team!
