Dominguez, a leading candidate for the Eclipse award, grabs his first Herringswell award in 2010. Dominguez’s Herringswell record for 2010 was 11-for-43 for a sensational 26%. Dominguez coupled up with Check the Label to capture three graded-stakes (including the Grade I Garden City). He also piloted rising-star Aruna to all three of her North American victories, including a win in the Grade II Miss Revere. Other winners for Ramon include; Cherokee Artist, Ennis, Holy Moment and Lisa Jean.

Champion 2-year-old filly: Philosopher Queen

By Empire Maker, Philosopher Queen used a one-turn 6-furlong dash to start her career. The young sire has quickly developed a knack for producing two-turn specialists. After her useful debut prep (she finished 6th), she captured a maiden win at Keeneland in the fall and capped her year with a runaway win in a first level allowance at Tampa Bay.

{jcomments on}Champion 2-year-old male: Toby’s Corner

The lightly-raced Bellamy Road colt showed his ability when he broke his maiden on Thanksgiving day at Laurel. Toby’s Corner won that day by 10 3/4 lengths in just his second run.

Champion 3-year-old: Check The Label

Four consecutive graded stakes wins is some feat. A 3-year-old doing so makes it all that more impressive. She won the Grade III Appalachian, Grade II Sands Point, Grade III Virginia Oaks and the Grade I Garden City during her dominant streak. She collected $432,467 in earnings in 2010, and carried an 8-4-1-1 record through her sophomore season. In a category that looked like a romp in August, both Aruna and Unbridled Humor made it an interesting title-race by each winning all three of their starts. By that point however, Check the Label had already been fitted for her crown.

Horse Of The Year: Shared Account

Won the Grade III All Along in June and followed that up with a heartbreaking second in the Grade I $500,000 Diana. Did not have things her way in the Grade I Flower Bowl in October, and made up for that and then some in the Grade I $2,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf. We all know that story. Shared Account’s 2010 record was 5-2-1-0 and collected $1,289,800 in earnings. In her three defeats in 2010, she was beaten less than 5 1/4 lengths combined 3/4 lengths in Gallorette, a head in the Diana and 4 1/4 lengths in the Flower Bowl.
