Serifos Gets First Stakes Victory

He is named after a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, and today SERIFOS earned his first black type at the Jersey Shore with a win in Monmouth Park’s Presious Passion Stakes.

Originally scheduled as 1 1/2 miles on the turf, the race came off the grass. Serifos and five rivals stayed in at the same distance on Monmouth’s muddy main track. Nik Juarez had the mount today and kept the 4-year-old gelding close up and on the rail in the early stages, shifting out to the 4-path beyond the half-mile pole. Collaring early leader No Salt, they battled before Serifos took command in the final 1/16th and drew away to win by 3 1/4 lengths.

Again today we’re congratulating Wertheimer & Frere on another win by one of their homebreds! Serifos is by top sire Into Mischief and out of Soldata, by Maria’s Mon. His younger half-brother Dataman (by Tapit) is also in the barn.
