Smooching Feels The Love at Presque Isle Downs

In her second career start, SMOOCHING made the trip from Fair Hill to Presque Isle Downs to break her maiden this afternoon. Pablo Morales piloted the 3-year-old filly in the two-turn mile on the all weather surface.

Away alertly, the pair nagged leader Last Glimmer all the way down the backstretch, settling just off her flank. Smooching responded easily when asked to overtake her rival coming out of the final turn, pulling away into the stretch. Cheerful Trout launched a late bid but fell short of threatening with Smooching getting under the wire 2 1/2 lengths in front.

Smooching was bred in Kentucky by Mulholland Springs LLC. She is by Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf-G1 and UAE Derby-G2 winner Mendelssohn out of multiple stakes winner Half Heaven (by Regal Classic). Interesting tidbit about Half Heaven: she was bred in New York by former teen idol and actor David Cassidy. Cassidy, who passed away in 2017, was an avid breeder, owner and racing fan.

Smooching runs for owners James Bakke and Gerald Isbister, and we congratulate them on her first win!
