Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Michael House’s SPOOL made it two in a row with an allowance win today at Belmont at The Big A. Javier Castellano was up for the 1 1/16th mile contest on the outer turf. Making her first start of her sophomore season, Spool was coming off her victory in a maiden special weight at Tampa Bay Downs on December 28, 2024.
The chart gives an in-depth play by play: “Spool dropped in nearing the first turn, moved from the two path to the rail on that bend, settled nicely off the pace, was asked near the seven-sixteenths pole, saved ground under urging on the far turn, moved to the two-path and put the runner-up in tight at the three-sixteenths pole then altered back to the rail, came through an inside opening to make a bid outside the furlong marker, gained the lead outside the sixteenth pole and held under strong urging.”
Joanne Neilsen bred Spool in New York, and Eclipse purchased her from the 2023 Fasig-Tipton New York Saratoga Preferred New York-Bred Yearling Sale for $125,000. She is by Hard Spun out of multiple stakes-placed Forever Smart, by Smart Strike. Congratulations to the partnership on another win by Spool!
