Strong Coffee and Pride Of Stride

Strong Coffee was the first to win this afternoon at Saratoga.  First time ‘outer’ by Warrior’s Reward and owned by Albert Frassetto the turf was to his liking it seems and he won his maiden race easily by three lengths.  Congratulations to Albert and his son John.

Pride Of Stride was having his second start, the first at Delaware almost a month ago.  Both he and Strong Coffee were ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr. and congratulations to Qatar Racing.

Candy Ride colt gets it right second time around – TDN

Qatar Racing’s Pride of Stride (c, 2, Candy Ride {Arg}–Understated, by First Samurai), one of just two members of the 10-horse field assembled for Saturday’s fifth race at Saratoga with prior racetrack experience, improved for a debut third over the Delaware main track July 10 to register a narrow victory. First away from the gate, Pride of Stride–getting Lasix for the first time–came back to Irad Ortiz Jr. to sit in the second flight of horses and in between rivals entering the turn. Shuffled back to the tail of that leading sextet nearing the head of the stretch, the $150,000 Keeneland September graduate was switched out about four off the inside, struck to the front under a left-handed drive at the sixteenth marker and took it by about a length. Favored Royal Son (Tiznow) set the pace from his inside stall, but looked hopelessly beaten with a quarter mile to run. But he dug in gamely at the fence and fought past Evolution (Speightstown), the field’s other second-timer, for second. Waging War (War Front), bet in half from his 5-1 morning line, raced five or six wide down the backstretch and made a menacing sweeping move to lead between calls. He plugged on gamely in the stretch and though he was fourth, should prove very tough to down next time out. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1. O-Qatar Racing. B-Earl H Shultz. T-H Graham Motion.
