Appropriately, Calumet Farm’s black and yellow silks found the winner’s circle on Black Eyed Susan Day at Pimlico when SUN BEE captured career win number three in an optional allowance. It was a thriller, with the chestnut filly charging from the back of the pack to battle leader Chelichna to the wire and prevail by a nose. Track announcer Dave Rodman was so animated in his stretch call that you wonder whether Sun Bee heard him – she was determined to get to the wire first!
Jorge Ruiz was aboard for the optional allowance going a mile on the turf. Sun Bee scored two back to back wins last summer at Delaware Park and wintered in Florida with the Palm Meadows string. Now 4, she is by English Channel out of Spooky Kitten, by Kitten’s Joy.
Congratulations to Calumet on another homebred win!
