Sy Dog In The Transylvania Stakes-G3

A graded stakes win at Keeneland this afternoon in the Kentucky Utilities Transylvania Stakes-G3 cemented SY DOG’s official Big Dog status. Now three for three, the 3-year-old son of Slumber (GB) and the Scat Daddy mare My Love Venezuela was making his sophomore debut after a four-month freshening. He made two starts last season, winning both – a maiden special weight at Belmont Park on October 24, followed by a step-up to stakes action in Aqueduct’s Central Park Stakes on November 27.

Interviewed after the race, assistant trainer Alice Clapham had this to say: “Graham has been really happy with the way he’s been training at Fair Hill and prepping for this. Our main concern was if the turf was going to be soft with this being off the layoff, but it’s been good today. He’s filled out and grown; he’s always been a very laid-back colt as you saw today…he’s very chill. Irad (Ortiz, Jr.) said he did everything that was asked of him. He said he travelled so nicely down the backside and handled the cut in the ground really well.”

Congratulations to owners – and breeders! – Madaket Stables LLC and Head of Plains LLC!
