Robbie Walsh
How long have you worked for Herringswell Stables? I have worked here since 2011, seven years now. That’s by far the longest tenured job I’ve ever had.
How did you become involved with horses? I grew up around them. Both my Dad and Granddad rode and trained racehorses. From there it was a natural progression.
What was your first racing-related job? Aside from helping my Dad out on weekends, my first paid position was when I was 12 years old with Frank O’Brien, a local trainer and friend of Dad’s. That was during the summer holidays from school. I did yard work, groomed horses and got to gallop one quiet one every day.
What is your favorite racing memory? Winning the Grade 1 New York Turf Writers at Saratoga for the third time was a pretty special memory as a jockey. Although one visual memory stands out back when I was a young aspiring jockey. Standing down at the 2nd last fence at Cheltenham Racecourse watching the Group 1 Queen Mother Champion Chase, it gave me goose bumps and cemented my love for the game.
