Following his victory in the Belmont Gold Cup Stakes-G2 at Saratoga on Belmont Stakes Day, THE GREY WIZARD (IRE) added a score in the listed Cape Henlopen Stakes at Delaware Park today. John Velazquez made the trip down for the mount in the 1 1/2 mile contest on the turf.
Settled in the back behind a pedestrian pace, the 5-year-old son of Caravaggio – Fancy (IRE) by Galileo (IRE) looked the picture the first time past the stands, galloping comfortably over the grass. Swung outside coming into the final turn, he and Johnny raced four-wide, took the lead in the stretch and finished a strong 2 1/4 lengths ahead of Limited Liability and Vincent Cheminaud.
The MidAtlantic was graced with perfect weather today, mid 70s with blue skies and an easy breeze. Celebrating Autism Awareness Day, Delaware Park had a decent crowd for a weekday afternoon and patrons greeted the winners enthusiastically.
Cheers to owners Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and the Estate of Albert Frassetto on another win by their big star!
