The Wertheimer and Frere homebreds have been making their marks lately, and first-time starter TOK TOK made his statement loud and clear at Colonial Downs today. He went off as the favorite in the 5 1/2 furlong turf sprint against seven rivals with Jorge Ruiz in the irons.
Although “reluctant to load, (he) settled on the inside, made an inside bid leaving the turn and continued that rally up the fence to slowly edge clear late to prove best, driving.”
Tok Tok battled a very tenacious A G Diamond in the final strides to hit the wire a half-length in front. The 2-year-old bay colt is by Quality Road from the graded stakes winning Unbridled Song mare In Tune. Undefeated in three starts, In Tune won the 2014 Gulfstream Oaks-G2.
Here’s hoping this apple didn’t fall far from that tree!
