I don’t think today can go by without mentioning Varenka’s impressive run in the Juvenile Fillies Turf (Grade 1) today.  She was one of the longest prices on the board running against seasoned Graded Stakes winners, from Europe too.  She didn’t have a lot of early speed and was a long way back in the early stages so when she got going just before the turn she found herself about eight wide but made up tremendous ground on the yielding turf to finish fifth.  The winner was not going to get beaten but she was only one and a half lengths behind the second horse.

VARENKA lagged well off the early pace, angled extremely wide in upper stretch, straightened and had late action.
