Willakia Wows in Colonial Downs Win

Stonestreet Stables’ lightly raced 4-year-old homebred filly WILLAKIA sprouted wings today in her fifth career outing, an 8 1/2 furlong turf allowance at Colonial Downs.

Sharp from the break, Willakia wanted the lead took Jorge Ruiz to the front of the nine-horse field. The pair never relinquished it, running “clear and unchallenged” in an absolute romp to a 6 1/2 length win. Races like this one are such great fun to watch; this filly felt good and was running for the pure joy of it. It looked like Jorge took a Maserati for a spin on a gorgeous summer afternoon.

By Tapit, Willakia is the third foal of Hillaby (ON), winner of Woodbine’s Bessarabian Stakes-G2 in 2014. Her dam, Sealy Hill, won three Sovereign Awards in 2007 as Canadian Horse of the Year, Champion Grass Mare and Champion 3-Year-Old Filly. She was a graded stakes winner of $1,747,081.

Congratulations to Stonestreet on today’s fantastic race!
