Winging It

Patiently piloted by Kevin Gomez, FOR FLYING (BRZ) made her first North American start a winning effort at Delaware Park this afternoon. The field of eight older fillies and mares went 8 1/2 furlongs on the turf course in an optional allowance.

Today’s race was a terrific introduction; she stalked comfortably on the rail, waiting for room to advance. Getting through on the turn, she overtook leader Sal’s Blue Jacket and won by 3/4 lengths. Stablemate Priyanka finished third under Jorge Ruiz.

All five of For Flying’s previous starts occurred in 2023 at Sao Paulo Jockey Club’s Cidade Jardim Racecourse in her native Brazil.  She was the winner of the Barao de Piracicaba-G1 and was second in two additional G1 events – the Margarida Polak Lara and the Diana.

Bred by Haras Old Friends Ltda, the 4-year-old filly is by Belmont Stakes-G1 and Breeders’ Cup Classic-G1 winner Drosselmeyer out of Table Mountain (BRZ) by Elusive Quality. Owners Newstead Stables LLC sent her to our Palm Meadows barn in February. Cheers to them on an auspicious start to her U.S. campaign!
